Une poignée de 45tours sur des labels étrangers dont le prestigieux label américain ROB’S House, label originel des Black Lips, et des tournées à rallonge au quatre coins du monde, ont déjà consacré les perpignanais de JACK OF HEART comme l’un des groupes de référence du ghetto rock and roll.
Certes, JACK OF HEART revendique le psychédélisme du Pink Floyd de Syd Barret, l’héritage du Velvet, ou le songwritting de Lee Hazlewood, mais ils les transcendent pour imposer un Rock’n roll singulier laminant les codes d’un folklore garage souvent trop régressif et passéiste.
Si le groupe louvoie de balades psychédéliques hallucinées en morceaux garage-punk tordu et vicelard, ils ne sombrent ainsi jamais dans les clichés.
Porté par la voie de velours du charismatique Piero Ilov (sosie de Patrick Dewaere , même tronche, même silhouette, même air étrange), JACK OF HEART vaut aussi par un live déflagrateur rodé aux côtés des Black Lips, Magnetix, King Kahn and the Shrines, ou BBQ. Pour info, Piero à joué et joue aussi dans les Fatals, Mighty Gogo players (In The Red), et les Demon’s claws (in the Red).
On allait oublier, les albums de JACK OF HEART sont produits par Piero, dans le salon de sa mère, sur un 8 pistes de merde. Etonnant, n’est ce pas ? Il faut dire que Piero n’en est pas à son coup d’essai….Artisan notamment du son des Sonic Chicken Four (In the Red), et des Fatals. Piero pourrait bien être sans le savoir le meilleur producteur français de rock’n roll…..

A handful of 45 rpm on foreign labels, among them the prestigious American label ROB’S House (the original Black Lips label), and extended tours to the four corners of the earth, have already established Jack of Heart from Perpignan as one of the benchmark groups of the rock and roll ghetto. With this first album, Jack of Heart plans to widen its audience – the group already shows a maturity of composition that is quite novel on the French Rock and roll scene.
Of course, Jack of Heart lays claim to the psychedelism of Syd Barret’s Pink Floyd, the legacy of Velvet and the songwriting of Lee Hazlewood, but the group goes beyond these to produce a very individual Rock’n roll, annhilating the rules of garage folklore which is often too regressive and backward-looking. Although the group beats out hallucinatory psychedelic ballads in twisted and vicious garage-punk pieces they never sink into cliché.
Carried along the velvet highway of the charismatic Piero Ilov (Patrick Dewaere’s double – the same mug, the same silhouette, the same strange look), Jack of Heart is also good value for its explosive live, broken in on the back of Black Lips, Magnetix, King Kahn and the Shrines, and BBQ.
