Témoignage ultime de la rage adolescente et quintessence du rock’n’roll, les 8 titres des BLOUSONS NOIRS sont essentiels pour comprendre ce qu’est le rock et ce qu’il devrait toujours être : volontaire, primitif et sauvage.Originaires de Bordeaux, Les BLOUSONS NOIRS semblent bien avoir acheté leurs instruments le matin pour enregistrer l’après-midi : Le chanteur est à contretemps, le batteur super fébrile et le guitariste autiste. Pas de complexes pour les BLOUSONS NOIRS dont l’enthousiasme et l’insouciance sont tels que les morceaux en deviennent délicieusement jubilatoires.
Leur deux uniques EP, véritables « ovnis », sont sortis respectivement en 1961 (EP « Spécial Rock ») et 1962 (EP « Spécial Twist ») sur le label Guilain. C’est tout naturellement dans le répertoire des groupes nationaux que les BLOUSONS NOIRS ont puisé leurs reprises de standards du rock’n’roll Français… pour les massacrer avec entrain ! Les Chaussettes Noires, les Chats Sauvages et 2 titres de Johnny sont ainsi à l’honneur et seul « Les fous du twist » se révèle être une composition originale de leur producteur le jeune Claude Ghislain. Pour mémoire, leur « Eddy soit Bon » était à l’origine le « Johnny B Good » de Chuck Berry. Bravo les gars, du beau boulot !
Une longue année a séparé l’enregistrement des 2 EPs sans qu’aucune amélioration ne soit réellement audible. Les BLOUSONS NOIRS étaient mauvais et s’en foutaient pas mal, manifestement. L’utilisation de la même photo pour la pochette des 2 disques renforce ce sentiment de « lose totale » et de « je-m’en-foutisme » assumé si rock’n’roll.
On pourra toujours réduire ce groupe à une blague de potaches, une curiosité, mais que vous le vouliez ou non, les BLOUSONS NOIRS sont précurseurs du Punk et de l’esprit DIY. Pour que vous compreniez bien, rappelez-vous qu’il faudra attendre 1964 pour qu’Hasil Adkins publie son « She Said », 1965 pour que les péruviens de Los Saicos mettent en boite « Demolicion » , et 1966 pour que le Legendary Stardust Cowboy nous livre son killer « Paralysed ». Les Shaggs et leur tardif « Philosophy of the world » en 69 sont évidemment hors course.
Pour devenir un groupe tout à fait « culte », les BLOUSONS NOIRS n’avaient plus qu’à rester dans l’anonymat. Nos investigations ont donc été vaines pour tenter d’identifier ces rockers. Nous savons seulement qu’ils n’ont rien à voir avec le groupe homonyme qui servait de backing band à Tony March, l’Elvis d’Aquitaine. En réalité, l’unique information concernant l’identité des BLOUSONS NOIRS nous provient de Marc Liozon (Rédacteur en chef du fanzine Le club des années 60) ayant retrouvé un exemplaire du second EP dédicacé par le groupe à l’intention d’une certaine Minie. On y découvre ainsi que le groupe serait composé d’un certain Clod, guitariste soliste, d’un Jo à la guitare rythmique, d’un Did à la batterie et enfin d’un certain Samy au chant… Une belle brochette !
Bref, pas d’état civil connu, pas de concert, pas de photo, 2 disques de tarés sortis de nulle part… Vive le Punk, Vive la France, Vive les BLOUSONS NOIRS !

An ultimate testimony to adolescent rage and the spirit of rock’n’roll, these eight songs by The BLOUSONS NOIRS (Black Jackets) are essential to understanding what rock music is and what it should always be: determined, primitive and wild. Originally from Bordeaux, The BLOUSONS NOIRS seem to have bought their instruments the morning of their recording session: the singer sings out of time, the drummer is feverish and the guitarist a total wack. Nothing is repressed with the BLOUSONS NOIRS. Their enthusiasm and carefree attitude are such that the songs are delightfully exuberant.
Their two unusually unique EPs were released in 1961 (“Special Rock” EP) and 1962 (“Special Twist” EP) on the Guilain label. And as a French band, they quite naturally decided to cover French rock standards… slaying them with enthusiasm! Les Chaussettes Noires (The Black Socks), Les Chats Sauvages (The Wild Cats) and two of Johnny Hallyday’s songs were thus brought to the spotlight. The only original track was “Les fous du twist” (crazy for the twist) written by their young producer Claude Ghislain. For the record, their “Eddy soit Bon” (Eddy be Good) was originally Chuck Berry’s “Johnny B Good”. Congratulations guys, good job!
A long year separated the two recordings and not much improvement was to be heard. The BLOUSONS NOIRS were bad and obviously didn’t really care. The fact that they used the same picture for the cover of both EPs reinforces the feeling of total uselessness and “don’t give a fuck” attitude that is so often embraced by rock’n’roll.
This band can easily be treated as a joke or an oddity, but whether you like it or not, the BLOUSONS NOIRS were forerunners of the French punk and DIY scenes. To gain a better picture, remember that it wasn’t until 1964 that Hasil Adkins published his “She Said”, 1965 that the Peruvians of Los Saicos put out “Demolicion”, and 1966 that the Legendary Stardust Cowboy delivered his killer “Paralysed”. The Shaggs and their late “Philosophy of the world” in ’69 were too late to the game.
In order to become a band with a cult following, all the BLOUSONS NOIRS had to do was remain anonymous. Our investigations to try and identify these rock n’ rollers were futile. All we know, is that they have nothing to do with the band with the same name that served as backing band to Tony March, the Elvis of the French Aquitaine region. In fact, the only information regarding the identity of the BLOUSONS NOIRS comes from Marc Liozon (Editor-in-Chief of the club des années 60 fanzine) who found a copy of the second EP dedicated to a certain Minie. This lead us to discovering that the band was comprised of Clod on lead guitar, Jo on rhythm guitar, Did on drums and Samy on vocals… A nice bunch!
In short, no known identities, no concerts, no pictures, two insane EPs out of nowhere… Long live punk, long live France, long live the BLOUSONS NOIRS!
